Kansas City police arrested at least 50 people Saturday and through the early morning hours on Sunday after protests on the Country Club Plaza turned violent and destructive. By Sunday morning, observers on the Plaza saw a lot of smashed windows, a lot of trash and the police presence was still strong.
The second day of protests over the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis earlier this week started out peaceful. By of 10 p.m., police said several violent groups of protesters had thrown bottles and rocks, blocked streets and looted businesses. One vehicle was set on fire near a parking garage.
The Kansas City Fire Department said it was answering medical calls in the area of the protest and asked people to allow fire and EMS crews through the area.
