It was nine years ago that then fire chief Dan Whitted started a Good Friday tradition of giving back to the community with the annual Fireman’s Fish Fry. This year’s fish fry will take place on Good Friday, April 19, from 5-7 p.m., at the fire hall. This is an all-you-can eat venue, with a free will offering accepted. “We started doing the fish fry in 2010, it was spearheaded by Dan Whitted as a way of giving back to the community. You know, just to say ‘thanks,’” said Fire Chief Todd Howell. “It’s a thank you to all who support the Shelby and South Toole County Volunteer Fire Department all year long. We live in the greatest little community around and truly believe we owe them.” When the fish fry originally started the event was hosted at the Elks, but since moving into the new fire hall the crew has been able to host from their facility, something they greatly enjoy.
