VIDEO: Warmer weather brings more people outdoors, but that can also mean more situations people need to be rescued from.
On Tuesday the Missoula Rural Fire Department practiced recreating a rescue that happened almost 10 years ago.
The goal of the exercise is to find the person in distress, make a plan and then execute that plan however the rescuers see fit to get everyone to safety.
During the summer season, the number of rescues varies, and some are severe while others aren’t.
“We do get a fair amount in the summertime of people either crashing their mountain bike or getting lost in the backcountry or in our recreation areas. But it doesn't happen all that often,” rope rescue tech Max Kottwitz said.
