Three months after an under-construction, four-story apartment complex burned down near downtown Bozeman, investigators are still trying to figure out what caused the blaze.
Clay Burnett, a private fire investigator, said the cause of the SOBO Lofts building fire is still under investigation. Burnett, who was contracted days after the fire, said he’s collected all the evidence but finding a cause could take a while. The Babcock Street building caught fire in the middle of a February night. Bozeman firefighters found it fully engulfed in flames when they arrived.
The roughly 50,000-square-foot building would have had 42 apartments and some commercial space when completed. An architect for the project has said construction would have been done in July.
