Alder Creek, Trail Creek fires continue to grow

The Alder Creek and Trail Creek fires burning in southwestern Montana continue to grow, overnight infrared flight data shows. The Trail Creek Fire has burned 51,815 acres west of Wisdom, up 392 acres from the last overnight flight. "There are areas of intense heat along southeast flank in vicinity Wenger Gulch and perimeter interior vicinity Nickel Bar Gulch," the flight log noted. The Alder Creek Fire burning west of Wise River now measures 33,911 acres, an increase of 332 acres since the last flight. The flight log also included the following: "Growth occurred in multiple small locations mostly along the northern portion of the fire. The largest area of growth occurred to the NE towards Big Hole River. Some intense heat occurred in that area. The SE portion of the fire contained only a few isolated heats. The rest of the interior of the fire contained isolated and scattered heat."
