The Fairview Volunteer Fire Department said a person was rescued from the top of a cell phone tower in Buncombe County early Thursday morning. The fire department said they were dispatched to the cell tower around 1 a.m. after a subject climbed 150 feet to the top of the tower. The subject was able to be lowered safely and was taken into custody, the department said. In a Facebook post, the fire department said the four and a half hour rescue operation was conducted in the dark during heavy rain. "Thankfully, no firefighters were injured...People should consider the lives of others that they place in jeopardy by committing ignorant acts such as this," the post said.
