Lightning is the possible cause of a fire that ripped through a large Clemmons house and took more than five hours and 60 firefighters to extinguish Wednesday night, according to fire officials.
The 5,000-square-foot house is one of several buildings and houses on the 400-acre property known as River Hills Farm.
The home, in the 8900 block of Blackberry Lane, has been declared a total loss, said Gary Styers, deputy fire chief and fire marshal with Forsyth County Emergency Services.
“Lightning is being looked at as a potential cause of the fire,” Styers said. “We had strong storms in the area last night producing a lot of lightning. We’re continuing to investigate today.”
Lewisville and Vienna firefighters responded to the fire around 6:45 p.m. Wednesday, and the fire was declared under control shortly after midnight.
