Firefighters and officers were assaulted Wednesday night with pyrotechnic mortars and Roman candles when they were called an apartment complex, according to Asheville police. Police said they were called about 10:45 p.m. to the Pisgah View Apartments to assist firefighters from the Asheville Fire Department who were being assaulted with the explosive devices. When officers arrived they were also assaulted, police said. Pepper balls were used to disperse the crowd. There were no reported injuries of emergency personnel or citizens. Several City of Asheville vehicles sustained damage from the explosive devices, police said.
