A Taylorsville man faces a felony charge after officers say he shot at firefighters who were on a call Tuesday afternoon.
Alexander County Sheriff Chris Bowman said that Michael Douglas Porter, 54, made a call about a small grass fire on Icard Ridge Road. Porter had said he was making the call on behalf of the homeowner. It turns out, he was not, Bowman said.
Members of the Bethlehem Volunteer Fire Department responded to the call.
As the firetruck was pulling into the driveway at the address of the fire, the driver of the truck heard a popping sound. It was later determined that the noise was a shot that had come from across the street and traveled roughly 25 to 30 yards from the truck, Bowman said.
