Instead of seeing homes get destroyed by flames the Wilmington Fire Department is working to rebuild and repair them.
For the entire week the fire department has been working with WARM to make improvements to different homes in Wilmington. From new floors to electrical work, volunteers have been giving back to the community. One of the volunteers said this is her first project like this and is excited to be making a difference in stranger’s lives.
“I think this is a great opportunity for us to come out and engage in the community, give back to the community and just get to know the people out here,” firefighter Amber Johnson said.
Some of the homes they have worked on were damaged by Hurricane Mathew and others had safety issues.
