Maiden Town Council recently agreed to purchase the land where Galaxy Foods grocery store once stood and build a new fire department on the site, according to a press release from the town.
The purchase will be delayed until May 3, 2019, which marks the end of a lease agreement between current property owners and the current tenant, which is the Golden China restaurant.
The 2.34-acre lot will cost approximately $180,000. The town plans to demolish the existing building and prepare the land to be construction ready, according to the release.
“We started this process around two and half years ago, looking at different properties throughout town that would fit our needs, researching response times, size of properties, possible layout designs, and many other things,” Fire Chief Tracy Caldwell said via the release. “In the end we narrowed it down to this location, and I am extremely excited for the future of our fire department.”
