The Rockingham Fire Department has received a grant that will allow them to provide free smoke detectors to residents in their fire district on request after the grant was put on hold for over six months due to a state review of the grant itself. RFD installed over 300 smoke detectors in 2017 when the department first applied for the grant from the Office of the State Fire Marshal (OSFM), but last year they were only able to receive smoke detectors in the first part of the year because of the review. This resulted in RFD only installing about 40 smoke detectors in 2018, and Chief Harold Isler said it’s been between six and eight months since they installed a new one.
