Local firefighter trainees will soon have the chance to fight virtual fires. The Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation has awarded the Cleveland Community College Foundation the BullEx ATTACK Digital Fire Trainer’s Package valued at approximately $25,000. The equipment creates real-life scenarios with the touch of a button on a remote control. The device produces a regulated amount of smoke and uses sound effects and flames on a screen for training. Instructors can set the level of difficulty. The CCC Foundation submitted a grant request for the equipment to enhance the hands-on instruction associated with the Fire Protection Technology degree offered through the Firefighter Academy at Cleveland Community College. CCC’s Brown Emergency Training Center currently houses a two-story burn building with basement and a drill tower, with the second and third floors laid out as apartments.
