An investigation by APD and FBI bomb experts into the June explosion of a truck on Beaucatcher Mountain has resulted in two felony charges. Scott Everett Ford, 39, of Asheville, has been charged with felony malicious use of explosives to damage property and felony burning personal property, according to arrest records. The warrant states Ford set fire to a 2012 Dodge Ram belonging to Jeffrey Warren Ponder "with the intent to injure or prejudice Progressive Insurance." Police records said firefighters responded to calls that the truck was on fire on June 16. One person received "non-life-threatening injuries" from being near the vehicle, APD spokeswoman Christina Hallingse told the Citizen Times in June. Once the fire was out, Capt. Joe Silberman, who is APD's post-blast investigator, as well as Fire Marshal D. Fender and FBI bomb technician C. Zachman came to the scene, according to a search warrant.
