What has been years in the making has finally come to fruition for Sugar Hill-Montford Cove Fire Department and the citizens it serves.
Members of the department will open their second station, at 694 Zion Hill Road, in just a few weeks, with an open house scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 7 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
“It’s going to be huge in response time for that end of the district and for neighboring districts, both on fire and medical calls,” said Sugar Hill Fire Chief Joe Washburn. “We provide mutual aid for Marion, Glenwood, Crooked Creek and Old Fort and, now, we are closer to each of those districts, as well.”
The second station will not replace the first, at 8883 Sugar Hill Road, but will work in conjunction with it.
The chief added that, in 2018, 65 % of Sugar Hill-Montford Cove’s call volume would have come out of Station 2 if it had been built.
