A major Eastern Carolina highway was closed because of a deadly accident. Firefighters say the crash happened just before 5:00 p.m. on U.S. 13, between Snow Hill and Goldsboro in Greene County. Highway Patrol says a vehicle driven by 85-year-old Charlie Cannon Jr. of Snow Hill pulled out of Grants Gas and Grocery into the path of a Ford Expedition. Cannon Jr. died in the crash. The driver of the Ford Expedition was transported to Vidant Medical Center. The busy highway was closed to all traffic from Corbett Town Road to Mewborn Church Road near Shine. The Shine Volunteer Fire Department says the highway was shut down while state troopers investigated the fatality.
