Four residents who escaped a burning home in Currituck County early Tuesday morning have been displaced, fire officials say.
Currituck County Fire-EMS officials said firefighters with the Lower Currituck Volunteer Fire Department were called to house fire on Dowdys Bay Road, in the Grandy area of the county, just before 1 a.m.
Officials said responding units found the home engulfed in flames. Some of the fire extended to an adjoining residential structure. The home was heavily damaged in the fire, officials said.
Four people who were home when the fire started were able to get out safely before firefighters arrived. The Red Cross is now helping the displaced residents, officials said.
