A man was charged after deputies say he attacked firefighters who were trying to extinguish a fire in a shed on his family property.
According to the report at the Rowan Sheriff’s Office, firefighters from the Millers Ferry Fire Department were dispatched to a fire on Timberlake Court, just north of Salisbury.
The call came in just after 10:25 pm on Wednesday night.
When they arrived, Christopher Allen Pittman, 27, began to attack them to keep them from putting out the fire. Deputies noted that Pittman w as “flailing his arms,” and telling them not to put the fire out.
When deputies arrived, they said that they discovered a container of the prescription drugs Xanax and hydrocodone, as well as a clear pipe.
Pittman told deputies he used the pipe to smoke methamphetamine, then later said he used it to “snort crushed pills.”
Pittman’s father told deputies that before the fire started, Pittman had gone into the shed and seemed to be trying to barricade himself inside.
