Neighbors sprang into action to save several from a balcony after a fire broke out at an apartment building early Wednesday morning. Morehead City Fire Chief Jamie Fulk says it happened at the apartments on Guardian Avenue just before 6:30 a.m. Chief Fulk says three people were rescued off of a second floor balcony by neighbors who rushed over with a ladder before emergency crews arrived. Officials say one person was transported to the hospital suffering from burns and smoke inhalation. Two apartments were affected by the fire, with five residents displaced. The Red Cross is stepping in to assist. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
