A man says the car he bought just four days earlier was torched Monday in his Gastonia driveway while he was inside his home. Alex Ochoa’s 2006 Chevrolet Impala still had dealer plates on it as fire officials investigated the charred remains at his Mount Vernon Drive home. He claims the fire was an act of vengeance by someone he knew. “I heard the window smash and then I looked outside and my car was on fire,” Ochoa said. “I’m pretty sure I know who it was, but I’m not going to give any names. Karma’s a (expletive). He’ll get what’s coming to him.” One Gastonia Police officer was at the scene taking fingerprints, while another took photographs. Gastonia Fire Department Chief Phil Welch said it couldn’t be determined as of yet whether the fire was intentionally set.
