Leta Wakefield is thanking God that her family is safe after a fire tore through their home on Tuesday afternoon. Shelby Fire responded the home on the 400 block of James Love School Road around 4:20 p.m. to find the garage in flames. Luckily the five people inside got out of the house in time, said Shelby Fire and Rescue Assistant Chief Todd McMurry. Wakefield was at work wrapping up her day when she got the call. “My boss talked to me all the way here to keep my mind off it,” she said. Tears fell from her eyes as she watched her home of 11 years burn.
