An elderly man died from his injuries following a Thursday morning car crash on Springs Road NE, according to Hickory Police Sgt. D. Hatley. Police are withholding the name of the deceased until family is notified. He was driving out of BB&T bank when his Chevrolet sedan was struck on its driver side by a Honda Pilot SUV traveling northeast on Springs Road NE near 18th Street Drive NE. The SUV driver’s injuries were not severe, Hatley said. Police directed traffic around the scene for several hours. The road was later reopened, Hatley said. Hatley said Hickory Police Department’s collision reconstruction unit is still investigating the accident.
