Authorities in Cabarrus County arrested and charged a 32-year-old man Wednesday in connection with a fire that occurred the day before at the county courthouse. Cabarrus County Courthouse security officers were told that there was a lot of smoke coming from the office of the probation officer on the bottom floor. They called the Concord Fire Department and the building was evacuated. The Concord fire marshal said the cause was suspicious and the Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Officers started an investigation, identified the suspect and issued arrest warrants. Brock Anthony Karriker was charged with one count of burning a public building, one count of injury to real property and one count of misdemeanor larceny. The fire caused about $25,000 damage, initial reports indicate. Karriker is at the Cabarrus County Detention Center under a secured bond of $75,000.
