Firefighters in Halifax County had to shut down a section of U.S. Route 301 due to a laundromat fire in Enfield. The fire was first discovered by officers who smelled smoke in the area and went to check out the source of the smoke. The incident was reported at 1 a.m. at U.S. 301 near Bryant Street. According to the North Carolina Department of Transportation, U.S. 301 was closed between E. Franklin Street and Cary Street because of the fire. When officials arrived at the scene, heavy fire and smoke were coming from the PDQ Laundromat. No injuries have been reported at this time.
