On Saturday, June 8, 2019, at approximately 7:00 p.m., Charlotte Fire Department, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department MEDIC and North Carolina State Highway Patrol responded to a motor vehicle accident with a reported vehicle fire and people trapped. The accident happened on I-485 Outer after the Johnston Road Exit.
Upon arrival, firefighters had a two-vehicle crash with a 4-door sedan fully involved in flames with occupants trapped in the burning vehicle. A red SUV was also involved in the accident. Assistance was requested for a heavy rescue truck from Pineville Fire Department.
Firefighters immediately went to work to extinguish the fire in the one vehicle. Once the fire was out, firefighters used hydraulic rescue tools, including the JAWS of LIFE, to cut apart the sedan.
