PHOTOS: Around lunch time Monday, firefighters from Albertson and Pleasant Grove, along with Duplin County EMS, Duplin Emergency Service and the Duplin Fire Marshall, respond to an overturned 18-wheeler on Highway 11 in the Kornegay Community of Duplin County. As fire and EMS personal arrived on the scene they found an overturned 18-wheeler flipped over and completely off the roadway. The flatbed truck was carrying a load of lumber that was scattered all over the road blocking all lanes of travel. The fire department blocked off the area around the scene and firefighters managed to clear the lumber to allow traffic to start flowing. The semi driver, Albert Alston, wasn’t injured in the crash but was checked out by EMS personnel. According to law enforcement on the scene, the truck operated by Alston was heading south on Highway 11 near the intersection on N.C. 111 and Highway 903 south during a heavy down pour. The driver lost control of his truck in a curve, ran of the right side of the road and overturned. The State Highway Patrol said the driver would be charged with exceeding a safe speed for the road condition.
