A man is now without a home after a fire tore through it in a matter of minutes on Monday. Multiple fire departments responded to a mobile home, owned by Sandy Smith, on Frank Whisnant Road in Morganton. Around 1:45 p.m., a 911 call was made saying that a chimney had caught on fire in the mobile home. Once fire personnel showed up on scene, flames were visible and the whole home was eventually overtaken and burned, leaving it in an unlivable condition, said Capt. Jimmy Winters with Burke EMS, who also serves as the Fire Chief at Oak Hill Fire and Rescue. “It extended pretty quickly,” he said. “If it burnt through the front room and if the wind was blowing like it was now (it consumed the house) in under 10 minutes.”
