VIDEO: History of the Beaufort Fire Department sits on a display case in their lobby. The case is filled with artifacts dating back as early as the 1930s. But Wednesday, pieces of the past walked through their doors. "It was a gentleman that stopped in yesterday and he had some antique fire helmets that he had found in the attic of his home," said Larry Fulp, Chief of the Beaufort Fire Department. A red metal helmet and a black plastic helmet with the letters BFD engraved on to the hats were donated to the fire department and have been added to their collection. There is little known about the items. Fulp says they date back from the mid-1940s to the early 1950s.
