VIDEO: During an emergency every second counts. Thanks to a new program launched Thursday by the Asheville Fire Department, firefighters may now be able to save those precious seconds, even minutes, during a call. Community Connect is the first program of its kind in the entire country, according to the Asheville Fire Department Public Information Officer Kelley Klope. "We’re basically the pilot project for this and we are the first in the nation to be using Community Connect," Klope said. "First Due being used by many but this portion is being piloted here in Asheville." First Due is the developer and the name for the commercial version of the program, allowing firefighters to pre-plan buildings by touring the property and identifying potential hazards.
