Representatives from the Tar Heel Fire District approached county commissioners Monday, requesting a tax increase to fund needed daytime coverage by the Fire Department. Eddie Knight told commissioners the community had met and was supportive of the proposal to increase the fire tax from .065 cents per $100 valuation to 0.1. Knight said it would give an increase of 3.5 cents per $100 value in additional revenues. “What that means, if you have a $100,000 tax liability, they’ll go up $35,” he said. He said the district has discussed the proposal to varying degrees two to three years. “Daytime calls are putting a lot of stress on our volunteers,” Knight said.
