A forest fire near Havelock and the Cherry Branch Community has been 100 percent contained, officials with the N.C. Forestry Service said Thursday. The 62-acre Pine Cliff Fire did have dead and down debris from Hurricane Florence in the interior that is still burning and producing smoke. It's not expected to need any extra attention. Firefighters from the U.S. Forest Service, North Carolina Forest Service, Harlowe Volunteer Fire Department, and the Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point Environmental Affairs Department worked through the night. Existing fire lines were cleaned and burnout operations were being conducted. The fire was reported Wednesday afternoon at five acres. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
