Firehouse Subs awarded more than $20,000 in grants to the Onslow County Sheriff’s Office and the Pumpkin Center Volunteer Fire Department through their Public Safety Foundation. The purchases made with the grant money were unveiled and celebrated at a small gathering at Jacksonville’s Firehouse Subs on Thursday. Firehouse’s grant came as a result of the challenges faced by police and fire departments in their rescue missions during Hurricane Florence, according to Sondra Booher, owner of Firehouse Subs in Jacksonville. In a presentation at the event she spoke to her hopes that such a hurricane never happens again. “We’re hoping that if something like this does happen,” she told the OCSO deputies and Pumpkin Center volunteers present, “this (grant) will help you out.”
