One person was treated after a small kitchen fire at a Statesville apartment Thursday afternoon. Statesville Fire Chief Spencer Lee said a woman was treated at the scene by Iredell EMS but was not taken to the hospital. Lee said she suffered from smoke inhalation. Lee said a resident’s quick action prevented the kitchen fire from causing more damage. Around 2 p.m., members of the fire department, EMS and Statesville police responded to an apartment complex in the 1400 block of Longdale Drive. Chief Lee said crews found a small fire in the kitchen of a second floor apartment in an apartment complex and controlled the fire within 12 minutes. He added that the occupants of the apartment, two small children and their mother, had already exited the apartment by the time first responders arrived. The other adult occupant was not there, Lee stated.
