Greenville Fire/Rescue is reminding everyone to think safety while cooking that Thanksgiving meal. They say a majority of fires this time of year is from unattended cooking. So, when you are cooking, make sure to check on your food frequently. While cooking you should have a three foot safety area near the stove or turkey fryer in case something happens. Also, make sure children don't get close to the stove or hot grease. And remember to use the correct amount of oil when frying a turkey so it doesn't spill over and create a fire. If a grease fire happens remember firefighters say not to use water on it as it will flare up and cause a bigger fire. This is also a good time to make sure you have smoke detectors and check the batteries to make sure they work.
