Firefighters at Camp Lejeune are using their creativity to teach fire safety to children.
The fire prevention department at Camp Lejeune Fire and Emergency Services spent approximately three weeks learning a song and dance to teach children about fire safety in a memorable way. Fire Inspector Bob Penrod says the children really enjoyed the lesson.
“They get written material, they get coloring books, crayons, fire helmets, things like that, but they get an opportunity to sing along with fire prevention songs so they get to participate instead of just hearing someone talk to them," he explains. "So, it’s a fantastic way to get the message out.”
Penrod says the program is offered to schools every year, and the department added the musical number after feedback from previous years.
