Four members of the Mooresville Fire Department — firefighters Nick, Shane, Daniel and Travis — from Station One on Main Street, Mooresville, visited the Mooresville Public Library Oct. 9 for Fire Prevention Week. They took this opportunity to talk to the large group of children and parents who had gathered for the afternoon’s event. Firefighter Nick welcomed the children and asked them questions about what they would do in case of an emergency and made sure they understood to call 911 for emergencies only and not to call it just for fun. He also asked what they would do if they found matches to which one child responded to give Mom or Dad followed by a demonstration of stop, drop and roll and other fire safety tips. Firefighter Shane then talked with the children about the various pieces of gear that a firefighter wears for protection when they are fighting a fire. He explained that he would start to look and sound strange, but for them “to not be afraid, I’m still firefighter Shane. We are here to help.”
