The Wilmington Fire Department has announce that the fall edition of the 2019 Citizen’s Fire Academy will begin Thursday, Sept. 12, a week later than scheduled, due to Hurricane Dorian. The eight-week academy will be held 6-9 p.m. with graduation set for Oct. 31.
This is a free academy and open to all citizens who are 18 years of age and older.
The Academy is an incredible opportunity for citizens to meet local first responders, learn what a career in public safety is really about and gain hands-on experience with the apparatus, tools and equipment.
Over the course of eight weeks, these members of the community are exposed to many different aspects of the Wilmington Fire Department, from what happens when you call 911 at the New Hanover County 911 Center to fire operations and tactical rescue. The Citizen’s Fire Academy has been a tremendous asset to the fire department in regards to building good relationships and strong community advocates.
