The Goldsboro Fire Department will be able to upgrade its communications equipment thanks to a grant from Duke Energy. The GFD was presented with the $6,000 check from the Duke Energy Foundation for new radio equipment Wednesday. Millie Chalk is Duke Energy’s Government and Community Relations Manager in Wayne County. She says this year’s grants went to North Carolina communities to help with restoration efforts following storms and natural disasters. Goldsboro Fire Chief Joe Dixon explained the grant will be used for a mobile repeater system. The equipment will help boost the communication signal between firefighters inside and outside of an incident scene. The Goldsboro Fire Department is one of 65 organizations in North Carolina to receive one of the Duke Energy Foundation grants. This year’s grants total $1.1 million in North Carolina.
