Asheboro Fire Department Chief Willie Summers and Battalion Chief Brian Lewis were honored with the Patriot Award during a ceremony at Asheboro Fire Department Station One Wednesday afternoon. The Patriot Award may be awarded to supervisors who have been nominated for their support of military efforts. Both Summers and Lewis were nominated by Chad Prine, a United States Army National Guard sergeant and Asheboro firefighter. According to Lt. Jason Joines, Prine was recently deployed. Currently, he’s in Texas for training and will soon be sent to Kuwait. “When somebody’s deployed, they don’t have to worry about their job,” Joines said. “Their job is being held by the city, and plus, Chief Lewis went the extra mile, making sure the I’s were dotted and the T’s were crossed for a smooth transition. Chief Summers has backed Chief Lewis up for all of that.”
