VIDEO: Eight families in Columbus are without a place to live after an early morning fire Wednesday at the Ashley Meadows Apartments in Polk County.
The Polk County fire marshal says incidents like this aren’t common in the area.
“Not around here, no," Fire Marshal Bobby Arledge told News 13. "We have regular house fires, stuff like this, but stuff like this is not very often at all."
The call came in just after 5 a.m. on Aug. 5. Firefighters confirm with News 13, the fire started in the attic and moved to the top right portion of the building, housing the top two units. Video sent in by a viewer shows a fully engulfed building with flames coming through the roof.
Firefighters tell News 13, the upper levels had extensive fire damage and the surrounding areas have water and smoke damage.
