Hendersonville City Council elected to build a new Fire Station 1 on the current site and surrounding property on North Main Street – promising to relocate the mini-golf course at Boyd Park behind the station. The council was presented with four options to renovate or build Station 1. The council opted to replace it with a new facility and additional administrative space that’s currently lacking between the city’s two stations. Station 1 is 20 years old. A study performed by ADW Architects identified numerous space and safety concerns that need to be addressed through renovation or a new facility. The study outlined four options that included renovating or building as well as adding administrative space. An early concept shows a three-bay drive-thru garage that would allow engines access from Church Street southbound or North Main Street northbound. The new facility and additional parking would be built on space currently occupied by the mini-golf course and the tennis courts.
