In a press release Friday, the Onslow County Sherriff’s Office said four of the 12 apartments were unoccupied at the time.
The active fire call came in to the Onslow County Emergency Operations Center just after 1 a.m. and the sheriff’s office confirmed one fatality and one person being treated for severe injuries, according to the release. Onslow Sheriff Hans Miller said a pre-teen was found inside the apartment complex.
“The deceased’s identity has been determined by the preliminary investigation; however, positive identification is pending confirmation from the medical examiner,” according to the release. “The victim’s identification will be released after notification of next of kin.”
