10,000 chickens killed in Yadkinville coop fire

10,000 chickens were killed in a chicken house fire in Yadkinville. It happened Thursday around 3:30 p.m. Advertisement Firefighters say one house was destroyed containing 10,000 egg-laying chickens. Damage is estimated at $200,000. There was a second house near by saved by firefighters. Water was pumped from a creek .5 miles away and hauled to the scene in tankers. "Fire departments that operated at the scene included Forbush, Yadkinville, Fall Creek, East Bend, Lewisville, and Vienna," officials said. "Courtney, Boonville, and Old Richmond. Yadkin County EMS, Emergency Management and the Yadkin County Fire Marshal have also assisted." The cause of the fire is still under investigation. The chickens were not for commercial use.
