The daughter of Capt. Jeff Bowen has joined the call for Asheville leaders to increase firefighter pay. Tuesday marked the ninth anniversary of Bowen's death while fighting a fire. Sarah Mills said no amount of money is enough for men and women who put their lives on the line to help others, but a minimum $15 an hour wage would be a start. "We are here for the long haul, and so we are not going to stop until it’s recognized and it’s changed," Bowen's daughter Sarah Mills said. Mills tried to speak at a recent Asheville City Council meeting but did not get registered in time. She said she has reached out to city council members and hopes to organize some kind of gathering in the near future.
