1 dies, 2 hurt in Greenhorn Road wreck

The driver of a Chevrolet S-10 pickup died and two people in a Ford F-150 pickup were injured in a head-on collision on the eastern end of Greenhorn Road about four miles north of Ronda about 4:50 p.m. Tuesday. The driver of the Ford was trapped in the wreckage. The wreck occurred just east of the intersection of Cockerham and Greenhorn roads and about three-quarters of a mile west of Greenhorn and Austin-Little Mountain roads. The incident occurred in the Austin Fire District. Responding were Austin Fire and Rescue, Pleasant Hill Fire Department, Shepherds Crossroads Fire Department, Wilkes Rescue Squad, Wilkes Emergency Medical Services and N.C. Highway Patrol. Both pickups were total losses. Traffic was blocked both ways on two-lane Greenhorn Road for over two hours.
