As two forest fires burn in Cherokee County, the N.C. Forest Service urges WNC to not burn debris until the end of May due to spring wildfire season and the coronavirus pandemic.
Two fires are burning along Tatham Gap Road near Andrews, according to the U.S. Forest Service. Firefighters are working to suppress both fires, which were reported over the weekend.
The Tatham Gap Road Fire is burning on private property and is approximately 40 acres in size. The Spread Eagle Fire is burning on U.S. Forest Service property on the Nantahala National Forest Tusquitee Ranger District and is also approximately 40 acres, the Forest Service said in a news release.
