Paramedics, EMTs and Law Enforcement offices from across North Carolina as well as Maryland, South Carolina and West Virginia gathered at the Brown Emergency Training Center last weekend to learn best practices for treating and removing patients from an active shooter situation.
Participants spent 20 hours in the classroom and running through a simulation at the training center.
They began their Friday evening with a pre-course assessment to determine what their baseline knowledge was, followed by lectures from a team of instructors.
Saturday started with participants visiting practical learning stations such as wound packing to control hemorrhage and tourniquet self-application should a first responder become injured by an active shooter, as well as proper application for an injured patient.
