A local hospital foundation has received a sizable grant to train emergency medical services workers to support some patients with chronic health conditions.
The $287,000 Duke Endowment grant to the CarolinaEast Foundation will establish a community paramedicine program for Craven, Jones and Pamlico counties.
The program will provide education and coordination to heart failure patients and others that frequently use EMS services across the three counties; officials say the intent is to increase available resources, their level of independent living and overall health and wellbeing, while decreasing their dependence on hospital services, emergency department care and the EMS system.
