Surf City Fire Chief Allen Wilson said rescue crews responded to multiple calls due to rip currents on Sunday.
Wilson said the first call came in Sunday about a group of ten people possibly in distress near the S curve.
Chief Wilson said, when rescue crews arrived, there were only two people struggling in the water. Both were rescued. One of the people pulled from the water was taken to the hospital, but is expected to be okay. Wilson said, later on Sunday, another two calls came in due to rip currents. Two people were rescued from the water, but neither had to be taken to the hospital. Wilson said both of those incidents happened near the pier.
Wilson said they have seen an uptick in rip current calls in the last two weeks since Tropical Storm Arthur moved off the Carolina Coast.
