30+ wrecks, including an ambulance crash, reported as nearly 6 inches of rain falls in part of Wake County

Police and fire departments across Wake County were busy Friday evening responding to more than 30 vehicle accidents likely due to heavy rainfall. According to the Raleigh-Wake County 911 incident log, police and firefighters responded to accidents in Raleigh, Cary, Garner and Wake Forest. According to estimates, 5.9 inches of rain fell in small spot in western Raleigh near Cary. Just west of that near the Wake County line with Chatham County, 4.1 inches of rain fell. Many of the reported accidents involved injuries, though the extent of them are unknown. Others were reported as “damage only” incidents. One wreck near Cary involved an ambulance. That wreck happened around 8:15 p.m. along southbound U.S. 1 between Walnut Street and Cary Parkway. No one was injured in the wreck, which involved three vehicles, including the ambulance.
